A Generation of Sociopaths: How the Baby Boomers Betrayed America by Bruce Cannon Gibney
Never before had I read a book that just came right out and stuck it to the Baby Boomers, who love to whine about the entitlement of today's youth (read: adults under 40). If you want to wrap your head around the ways our esteemed elders made a mess for us to clean up, this is a great read. Get mad!
The F*ck It Diet: Eating Should Be Easy by Caroline Dooner
People of all ages need to read this book, but millennials will benefit from receiving permission to stop chasing perfection via their weight or crossfit or yoga or “clean eating.” Yes, millennials love avocado toast and cold pressed juice, but this book is a game changer when it comes to allowing yourself to take perfection off the menu and focus on, perhaps, not being so burned out all the time.
Will I Ever Be Good Enough? Healing the Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers by Dr. Karyl McBride
Discovering my own emotional abuse from childhood has directly changed the way I see society and was one of my first experiences learning about gaslighting. While obviously geared toward cis women, this book is applicable to anyone who grew up emotionally traumatized and can help you see the ways that trauma has affected the way you interact with the world. It's not normal to be treated like this, and you're not crazy for expecting basic decency.
The Body is Not An Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love by Sonya Renee Taylor
Whether you live in a fat body, queer body, gender nonconforming body, or any body at all, you're probably carrying around some heavy stuff with regard to how your body takes up space in the world. Sonya Renee Taylor lovingly guides us through a series of inquiries and radical reflections to stop feeling like our very existence is somehow wrong or unacceptable. You are loved! Read this book!
The Gaslighting of the Millennial Generation: How to Succeed in a Society That Blames You for Everything Gone Wrong by Caitlin Fisher
The Gaslighting of the Millennial Generation is both a deconstruction of the claims against millennials as well as a how-to guide for adults to live a successful life on their own terms rather than how it's “always” been done. From feeling mad at the older generations for wrecking everything to learning to love yourself and have awesome boundaries, this book helps you thrive as a millennial in a world that maligns you.
