A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

This book was very inspiring. One of the main characters, Jamie Sullivan, is the minister’s daughter, and helps with the school’s production of The Christmas Angel. Landon is forced to participate in the production. Jamie, who Landon frequently made fun of, helps him with his lines. After seeing each other more and more, the two fall in love. Lesson learned: You should never judge someone by their outer appearances.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This book explains the concept, “Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about.” It shows that you should always be kind to each person you come across because you never know what is going on in their personal lives.

Before I Die by Jenny Downham

Tessa is diagnosed with terminal lymphoblastic leukemia and comes up with a list of things to do before she dies. This really made me think: If you really want to do something, you should go ahead and do it; you may have less time than you believe.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

This book was very touching. A 16-year-old girl is diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Her parents force her to join a support group where she meets the love of her life. Takeaway: Don’t give up on your dreams, because great things will happen when you least expect them to.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares

This book is about a group of four girls who acquire a pair of jeans. The girls are all of different shapes and sizes. They magically fit all of them perfectly. Many people are self-conscious about their body types, but this author teaches the reader that “beautiful comes in many different shapes and sizes.”
